All Black clothes; black vest top, black trouser and a
gold scarf to represent simplicity but elegance at the same time. The all
blackness of it all creates an illusion that she isn’t or might not really be
there. The grey hoody that she wears during the video outside is used to
represent the mood that is about to dawn upon the actors in the video. It
also for that particular scene allows her to blend into the crowd and not
really be noticed.
The make-up used is a lot of gold tones and subtle
colours to make her look natural but ‘goddess like’ at the same time. if
extravagant make-up was used it would take away the focus from the actors and
place it all on the artist. In any other music video that would be the point
but in this music video the focus is supposed to stay mainly on the narrative
occurring. The hair was style appropriately to the original style of the
artist’s hair. The blonde colouring in the hair reflects the tones used in
the make-up. Colours like those used are dominant enough to be shown on
camera and to create an image which is the opposite of those actors in the
video. This adds to the idea of her not being real in the video and helps to
make her stand out against the actors in terms of looks.
The accessory of the gold heart necklace in the video
is used as a symbolism of love which to each character in the narrative seems
to be inexplicitly forgotten. The colour gold again compliments the artists
tone of gold’s and browns previously used on hair and make- up.

The
way women are represented; weak, vulnerable, open to manipulation. The fact
she gets attacks while walking home alone and then welcomes the guy who
attacks her to feed the habit he got her hooked on, complies with these
stereotypes of women. The actions she commits in the video are not ones that
women typically undergo in our genre of music video. No dancing, singing or
relations with male acts takes place among this character.

The
way women are represented; weak, vulnerable, and open to manipulation. The
fact that she witnesses the attack and keeps it to herself supports these
suppositions of women. The representations of young black girls doesn’t fit
with the personality of the character that Tamara portrays as they are seen
to be loud and aggressive.

The
way women are represented; weak, vulnerable, and open to manipulation. The
representations of young black girls being aggressive and out there fits her
character as when she realises that someone has been hiding information about
her friends whereabouts she lashes out. She doesn’t not fit into the normal
stereotypes of women being weak and open to manipulation but vulnerable and
overly emotional,

‘A habit she never wanted, a pain
she needed numbing.’
‘An evening she can’t forget, memories
she can’t stomach not for nothing but a needle in her vein. Friends she
ignored till the phone stopped ringing till the door stopped knocking. Her
door she only opens to let him in, but she has no money so she lets him come, you can take that wither way’
A window she rarely
opens so she can see the day,
Her stove she only uses to heat her spoon, For her the only way she can reach the moon.
She builds a rocket
out of stars in her spoon,
Straps up, the only way to make it to the moon, Dear god, I hope you haven't forgot This young brave astronaut |

‘Looking up, looking
up, looking up for the young brave astronaut
Give it up, give it up, give it up for the young brave astronaut I know that you're busy but any time you got, God please make a visit’
To the young, to the
young, to the young,
To the young brave astronaut She opens the window for a glimpse out And heats a spoon over the stove Feels a familiar sting and then slips out With a window that isn't quite closed With the window open and the stove still lit, Along with the rain came a gust of wind, Which blew the fire out, Gas still running and her still breathing the gas in. She builds a rocket out of stars in her spoon, Straps up, the only way to make it to the moon, Dear god, I hope you haven't forgot This young brave astronaut |
